Roxana Silbert is the artistic director of Hampstead Theatre. She was born in Buenos Aires in 1964. Her father’s family are Russian Jews from Lithuania, and her mother’s family are from an Italian background. When Roxana Silbert was six years old, her family moved from Argentina to England. She did her first trip to Israel when she was nine years old to visit her grandparents. Silbert studied English at the University of Cambridge and then worked as a production assistant in television before training as a director at the London Drama Studio Ealing.
She has directed both classic and contemporary plays. In 2012, she became artistic director of Birmingham Rep. Silbert has been appointed artistic director of Hampstead Theatre, where she succeeded Edward Hall in spring 2019. Alongside Greg Ripley-Duggan, she is also Hampstead’s joint chief executive.
