Daniel Aukin is a director who was born in London. He is the son of David Aukin and Nancy Meckler. Daniel Aukin started directing a student-run theatre organisation when he was an undergraduate at Chicago University. He is based in the United States and has directed many plays, including Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles (2011), Marius von Mayenburg’s The Ugly One (2012), Joshua Harmon’s Bad Jews (2013), and Melissa James Gibson’s Placebo (2015). He also worked as artistic director of Soho Rep from 1998 to 2006 and teaches at The New School for Drama. Aukin directed Joshua Harmon’s play Admissions in New York and in London, with its UK premiere at Trafalgar Studios in 2019. Most recently, Aukin has directed Stereophonic (2023), which has been named as the Best Play of the Year by the Washington Post. The play has been transfered to Broadway, running until late Summer 2024.
