Before <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">he succeeded <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">with his writing, Kempinski had a career in acting. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">He<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> became prominent as a playwright with his play <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Duet for One <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">(1980).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Duet for One <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">t<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">ells <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">the story of a violinist affected by multiple sclerosis. The play did <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">very<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> well at the West End and on Broadway <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">and was<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"> performed in 42 countries. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">The play was adapted for film in 1986 and earned Julie Andrews, who played the lead role, a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Kempinski\u2019s play<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>Separation<\/i><\/span><i> <\/i><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">(1987) <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">also received much critical acclaim.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">In his biographically influenced play <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><i>When the Past is Still to Come <\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">(1992) <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Kempinski addressed the difficulties of coming to terms with memories of the holocaust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tom Kempinski died on the 2nd August, 2023 at the age of 85.<\/p>\n<p>Plays<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">&#8212;.<i>\u00a0Separation<\/i>.
