He was born in 1931 and grew up with his Polish-Jewish mother in London&#8217;s East End. Landis began acting with the Unity Theatre and has had a long and successful career in theatre, film, and television. He later returned to the politically-minded Unity Theatre and occasionally directed plays, such as the praised production of <em>Death of a Salesman<\/em> in the late 1960s.\u00a0Landis appeared in several plays in the West End, including <a href=\"https:\/\/britishjewishtheatre.org\/?page_id=410\">Arnold Wesker<\/a>&#8216;s <em>The Kitchen<\/em> at the Royal Court Theatre in 1961. He had an important supporting role in the film<em> A Hill in Korea<\/em> (1956) and some minor roles in films like <em>Bitter Victory<\/em> (1957), <em>Private Potter<\/em> (1962), and\u00a0<em>Ransom<\/em> (1974). On television, he appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/britishjewishtheatre.org\/?page_id=429\">Jack Rosenthal<\/a>&#8216;s<em> Bar Mitzvah Boy<\/em> (1976), <em>Jeeves and Wooster<\/em> (1991), <em>EastEnders<\/em> (1995-1997), and <em>Friday Night Dinner<\/em> (2012), among many other films and series. His last role was in <em>Casualty<\/em> in 2018. In 2002, Harry Landis was elected as President of the British actors&#8217; union Equity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Harry Landis died on 11th September 2022, aged 95.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harry Landis was a British actor.
