He is the father of director <a href=\"https:\/\/britishjewishtheatre.org\/?page_id=2739\">Daniel Aukin<\/a>. David Aukin has been nominated several times for BAFTA Awards and has won twice, for <em>The Government Inspector<\/em> (2005) and <em>Britz<\/em> (2009) \u2013 both films dealing with Tony Blair.\u00a0Along with David Hare and Max Stafford-Clark, Aukin co-funded the Joint Stock Theatre Company in 1974.\u00a0He became an administrator and later artistic director at the Hampstead Theatre, where he produced numerous premiers, including plays\u00a0by Brian Friel, <a href=\"https:\/\/britishjewishtheatre.org\/?page_id=418\">Mike Leigh<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/britishjewishtheatre.org\/?page_id=31\">Harold Pinter<\/a>.\u00a0Aukin was also appointed artistic director of the Leicester Haymarket Theatre, where he premiered <em>Me and My Girl<\/em>\u00a0(1984). In 1986, he was appointed executive director of the National Theatre, which he ran with Richard Eyre. He was offered the position of head of film at Channel 4 in 1990, and he commissioned over 100 feature films until 1998. Many of these films received numerous Oscar nominations, three of which were awarded: <em>Madness of King George<\/em> (1994), <em>Secrets &amp; Lies<\/em> (1996), and <em>Trainspotting<\/em> (1996).\u00a0Aukin has produced intermittently in the West End and\u00a0produced the Broadway revival of <em>The Elephant Man<\/em>\u00a0in 2002.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>David Aukin, born 1942, is a theatrical and executive producer, as well as a qualified solicitor.\u00a0Aukin is married to director and actress Nancy Meckler.
