He studied history and Yiddish in London, Vienna, and New York. Davis lectured in Modern European History and taught Yiddish language and literature. He wrote widely on Yiddish literature and worked on films and in the theatre. His expertise was especially called upon when a film needed an adviser on Yiddish. Davis also\u00a0became the chairman of the Mameloshn Ring, a London-based group promoting an interest in Yiddish.
